Christmas Time!

So it's been a super long time since I've posted but I'll give a quick rundown of the books and authors I've been reading. The post before the Light the Night one, I was about to read Kelly Meding's Trance book which turned out to be a FANTASTIC read! I loved the world she built and the idea behind regular people having these 'superpowers' which were just enhanced genetics. I will absolutely be getting the next in the series and I'm really excited that she's shaping up to be an author that I intend to read whatever she puts out. Now, a few posts ago I put out a list of books that I planned to read which was this:

Spider's Revenge (Elemental Assassin #5) - Jennifer Estep
Unforsaken (Banished #2) - Sophie Littlefield
Trance (MetaWars #1)- Kelly Meding
Reckoning (Strange Angels #5) - Lili St. Crow
Hellbent (Chesire Red Reports #2) - Cherie Priest
Succubus Revealed (Georgina Kincaid #6) - Richelle Mead
A Touch of Frost (Mythos) - Jennifer Estep

Of that list, I've read the ones bolded. I've also read a few other books that are not on this list. So since I've last written, these are the other books I've read:

Bite Before Christmas (Novella for Night Huntress Series) - Jeaniene Frost
Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter #2) - Nalini Singh
Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter #3) - Nalini Singh
Magic on the Line (Allie Beckstron #7) - Devon Monk
Head Rush (Disillusionists Trilogy #3) - Carolyn Crane

Unfortunately, I won't be able to complete my goal of reading 100 books this year. This makes me sadder then I thought it would. I've only made it to 79 which is way below my goal :( . A lot of the reasoning is my inability to buy the books right now because it is Christmas time. I am, however, rereading Divergent by Veronica Roth. I think it's safe to say that it's my favorite book of the year. I did really enjoy Hunger Games but Divergent had me from the get-go whereas Hunger Games took me a bit to get into. I loved the concept behind Divergent and the factions of Truth, Knowledge, Selflessness, Daring, and Peacefulness (also loved the love story too!). I urge you to pick it up if you haven't read it already. The next in the series is called Insurgent and will be published next year some time.

Now that I've yapped about books, I'm going to yap about Christmas time! I've done everything I can to get myself into the Christmas spirit, even decorating my cube at work! I've put lights on the house, I've helped Mom and Dad with their Christmas shopping, and just tried to get into the overall holiday spirit. There's something that's bugging me, though and it's really starting to nag. My parents, the wonderful, awesome, goodhearted people that they are, are so getting screwed this Christmas. They have this wonderful new home that they are so proud of (which I'm so happy they finally live in a home they love and deserve) and everyone's bailing on them. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind not seeing certain parts of the family because it's just less drama but this isn't about me. This is about the fact that my Mom's heart keeps getting broken to the point that she can really only laugh about it. I'm trying to do everything I can and in my power to make sure they don't have a terrible Christmas but damn it. It shouldn't be like this. Yes, life isn't fair but seriously? My parents deserve better. They always have deserved better. They should be excited for their first Christmas in their new home and yet there's this heaviness in the air because they remember that their big Christmas isn't happening. It's just me and Cisco there on Christmas; which even then is worrisome because Cisco's family is doing Christmas too. But, I'm staying overnight there on Christmas Eve because I want to wake up on Christmas Day and spend time with Mom and Dad. I think it'll be nice and we can hang out by the fireplace, play games, watch movies, open presents, all the family fun stuff. It's the least I can do for my parents and it's something I've been looking forward to since I decided to stay the night Christmas Eve. I love my parents and I truly hope we can make this Christmas into a good memory.

So, on that note, what's everyone doing for Christmas? Anyone concerned about family drama? Drunken brawls over the last turkey leg? Anything?

I leave with this quote:

"I never thought I would need bravery in the small moments of my life. I do."

- Veronica Roth
